Most countries demand 14 to 16 years of age for viewing this movie, because of violence and hush language. This problem was "solved" in Vietnam, where the movie was banned.
Oliver Stone served in Vietnam himself and the story was written by him upon his return. The American Film Institute placed Platoon at #86 in their "100 Years...100 Movies" poll. Channel 4 voted "Platoon" as the 6th greatest war movie.
