Story
Radio astronomer Dr. Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway (Jodie Foster) discovers an intelligent signal broadcast from outer space. With help of her friend-sponsor she is able to decipher the code and discovers detailed instructions for building a mysterious machine. Machine takes her through wormholes to Vega system, but back on Earth she meets disbelief and scepticism.
Her friend and lover Palmer Joss (Matthew McConaughey) is also searching for truth, but instead of science through faith in God. He becomes her believer, too, after the first contact has been made. Now the humankind is on the way to find a compromise between science and belief.
